The controls are buggy. You have to press the button several times before the switch or button press registers.

First of all thank you for playing, I really appreciate it! 

Do you have a high refresh monitor by chance? I'm fairly confident i fixed the control bugs (on high refresh the inputs were basically getting erased). But on my computer I wasn't able to replicate the button register issue. No pressure if you don't have the time but I am curious if the issue still persists.
